How to Implement SEO

First things first, determine your keywords.  Before you start optimizing your website, make a plan for which keywords you want people to use in Google so that they may find your site. Make sure you use no more than three sets of different keywords (the fewer the better).  These sets are what you will use to put in all your website’s pages.  You may want to assign one set of keywords per web page to focus on that specific keyword search.

5. meta description

This allows you to customize the description Google uses when displaying your website link/description on the Google results page.  By default, Google used the first paragraph of your website’s content as the description.  Obviously, using your targeted keywords in your custom description will help your PageRank.

<meta name=”description” content=”Brian Wilson is an Ottawa real estate lawyer with years of experience delivering excellent service to his clients.” />

Try to add your keywords in your H1 -> H6 tags as you see fit.  Header tag content usually has a greater weight in PagrRank than regular paragraph  text.

7. Image alt attribute

Anytime you have an image in your webpage, it is critical that you use the “alt” attribute and describe the image, using your keywords if possible. This is where you use the keywords in the filename and the ALT text.

9. Visible text content.

Your regular content should have your keywords in it between 3 and 5 times, depending on the length of your page.  As for all the tips I provide, remember to not spam your keywords as you will be penalized for it.

10. External SEO – Backlinks (reciprocal links)

This SEO you can only partially control. This involves getting other websites to link to your website, i.e. reciprocal links.  You cannot force websites to link to your site, but offering a reciprocal link may help make it happen.  If so, you will want to control the link, such that you can provide them several versions of link code depending on which best fits their site. This way, you control the image and link text and can change it as your site changes.

Customizing and providing a variety of backing options for other websites to link to your website will allow you to control the images/text used to describe your website.

For example, copying the following code to your web page:

<a href=”http://” title=”Search Engine Optimization Tips – SEO”>Search Engine Optimization Tips – SEO</a>

and it will produce the resulting link on this website from your site:
